Ivo Senra is a Brazilian musician: piano and synthesizer player, composer and musical producer. In the first set of this night, Ivo will present a new proposal for expanding the art of improvisation based on the mixture between jazz and contemporary classical music structures. These are new frontiers being explored both in the musical and orchestration senses, since everything is presented by synthesizers. In the second set, Eduardo Bello, prominent Brazilian bass player living in NYC, will present his new compositions inspired in the Brazilian Choro tradition. Todd Neufeld is a guitarist whose unique musical and improvisational voice has made irreplaceable contributions to the bands of Tyshawn Sorey, Masabumi Kikuchi, Lee Konitz and many others. His very personal synthesis of a myriad of musical influences has created a brew all his own. 1/17 - Sergio Krakowski Astist in Residency @ Barbès - The Brazilian composer Thiago Thiago de Mello (voice and acoustic guitar) performs his powerful and beautiful songs about the Amazon Rainforest, where the songwriter grew up and continues to return each year. From a family of artists, poets and musicians, Thiago Thiago de Mello "combines Brazil's rich literary traditions and African-inspired rhythms, such as samba, forró and pagode, with jazz, rock and electronica" (Tim Wilkins, WBGO). The concert, with Sergio Krakowski (pandeiro) and Todd Neufeld (electric guitar) is an invitation to a journey inside the Amazon Rainforest. 1/10 - Sergio Krakowski Astist in Residency @ Barbès - Sergio Krakowski's Percussive Ensemble will have its debut as the opening act of this night. This project is the result of two years of weekly Pandeiro (Brazilian Tambourine) woskhops in NYC where Sergio could create pieces focused on the features of this ancient frame-drum that is a symbol of Brazilian Music. As the second act, Egberto Electrico, a group of Brooklyn musicians, approach the glorious and challenging canon of compositions by Brazilian pianist and guitarist Egberto Gismonti with groove and space, reverence and re-invention, fire and sweetness, on instruments electric and not.
